When a Workers’ Comp Adjuster Stops Responding, Here’s How We Follow Up

When workers’ compensation claim follow-up stalls, document the open items, use the payer’s available contact paths, and ask for the appropriate escalation contact when routine outreach goes unanswered. In one case, we reached an adjuster’s supervisor and continued follow-up; the claims were eventually paid, but the reason for payment was not established.

A biller organizing workers’ compensation claim follow-up and payer contacts

Our perspective: keep follow-up active when the adjuster goes quiet

In one workers’ compensation account, claims remained unpaid after resubmission and routine follow-up with the adjuster did not produce a resolution. We asked a backup adjuster for another contact, reached the original adjuster’s supervisor, sent the outstanding claims for review, and continued following up.

The claims were ultimately paid, but we cannot establish exactly why payment occurred or how long the process took. We do not have a verified claim count or dollar amount, so we do not publish either.

Make the next action visible

When a workers’ compensation claim is stalled, keep a record of the claim status, prior submission or resubmission, contact attempts, payer responses, and next follow-up date. If the assigned adjuster is unresponsive, ask the payer for an alternate contact or supervisor path. Keep the communication factual and focused on what is needed to move the claim review forward.

An escalation is not a guarantee of payment. The goal is to clarify ownership, confirm the payer received what it needs, and avoid letting an unresolved item disappear into an aging queue.

The Brace Health point of view

We combine repeated follow-up with a documented escalation path. The practical lesson is about persistence and visibility—not a claim that escalation alone produced payment. The specific outcome in this account should not be generalized to every workers’ compensation claim.
